5 Activities To Do In Somerville This Winter

Just because winter is here doesn’t mean that it is time to go into hibernation!  There are still so many exciting and fun activities that can be done around Somerville and the Mornington Peninsula all winter long.  Need to be pointed in the right direction?  No problem, we have you covered with our favourite 5 winter activities that will keep the whole family entertained all winter long! 

Activity 1: Grab a bite to eat at one of the many delicious cafes and restaurants at Somerville Plaza.

Getting out of the house is a sure-fire way to shake the winter blues away – so why not turn it into a tasty expedition?  Somerville Plaza has so many delicious dining options to try – from Ducky Brown Cafe and Harlem Specialty Coffee to Poj’s Charm Thai there is an exploration of the senses to be had.  Book a table for the whole family, a friendly catch up or stop by to pick up a delicious takeaway option – however you enjoy the dining options that Somerville Plaza has to offer, we know that you are guaranteed to want to keep coming back all winter long. 

Activity 2: Go on an adventure and enjoy a day out at Dinosaur World.

Looking for an adventure that kids and big kids alike will love?  Then hop on over to Dinosaur WorldDinosaur World is all about bringing your child’s imagination to life, where their love of dinosaurs is right there in front of them and their own adventure begins.  Watch your child’s face light up with excitement when they come face to face with Dinosaur World’s favourite dinosaurs – Wilson a large and friendly walking dinosaur, Wilbur a baby raptor, Lollipop a baby Triceratops and Nibbles a baby T-rex.  Children can also have a go at finding a fossil by chiselling away in the dig and discover marquee.  There is not a lot of walking involved which makes our Dinosaur World visitor friendly for both young and old. 

Activity 3: Spend some time outdoors at Fruit Growers Reserve.

A BBQ or homemade picnic more your style?  Check out Fruit Growers Reserve!  Complete with an epic playground that will keep the kids entertained for hours, a sheltered barbeque spot, water taps, toilets and a massive oval perfect for running around, your whole family is sure to have a day that is going to be remembered and cherished for years to come. 

Activity 4: Visit the Yumarrala Wetlands.

A much-loved haven for local wildlife, Yumarrala Wetlands is an asset that is shared by the local Somerville Secondary College and the wider Somerville community.  The wetlands restoration project which was commenced by Somerville Secondary College students in 2012, has allowed the students to learn and grow while bringing the local community together.  Today the students continue to oversee the maintenance and protection of the area and it also provides a lovely spot for an afternoon adventure suitable for the whole family. 

Activity 5: Treat Yourself to a Pamper Day
